One Camera, One Lens, Tripod & Nothing Else
During the past years and I don't mean just a few, I have been lugging my camera backpack which weighs up to 20 kilos when packed with at least two bodies, four lenses, filters, speedlights and other accessories. Consequently I have built a strong upper body strength but my back is totally shot and I am just getting too old to be lugging all that weight. Old habit dies hard and most of the time I still carry that weighty backpack on most outings. I guess it is a discipline to decide what to shoot for each outing and confine yourself to just one camera and just two lenses at the most.
To discipline myself, I did just that today carrying only my old trusty 5D MkII (nicknamed "Precious"), the Canon 35mm f/2 IS USM and my old weighty Manfrotto 190 XPROB with the Sirui K30X ball head. Normally I use the Sirui fibreglass M3204 tripod but it is being repaired under warranty. Admittedly it was hard to limit myself although I often do not use all the equipments and accessories that I carry with me. I seriously still question my discipline if it was an outing further from home than just in Sydney CBD. I wonder if others have the same dilemma. Do you carry as much as you think you will need or do you discipline yourself and therefore become more creative and disciplined in your composition with just a single prime lens.
The result of the test to discipline myself actually turned out to be quite good. Guess I will have to do more disciplining of myself. Right, one lens, one camera and one battery, that's all. Try it and let me know how you fare.
By the way I can now vouch that the Canon 35mm f/2 lens IS USM is very sharp and a nice lens to use. How does it compare with the Sigma 35mm Art, I don't know but I am happy with the Canon 35mm f/2 IS USM.
