Music & Happiness
I was in Sydney City today strolling and looking around at the Pitt Street Mall. As usual I have my camera with me. It was just another busy day like any other until I walked by a flamenco guitarist and an elderly man with a sandwich board. The flamenco guitarist was very good playing fantastic flamenco music. Add to this, there was this elderly man with silver hair and beard carrying a sandwich board happily dancing to the flamenco guitarist. It was one of those moments that the magic of music and happiness intertwined. People could not help but stopped to enjoy the ambience of happiness created by the guitarist and the old man. A lot of people ended up immersing themselves into the music and dance.
I have taken a lot of photographs of buskers in Sydney city and in fact a few flamenco guitarists. If it was just another image of flamenco guitarist I would have just walked on but the combination of the music, the guitarist, the dancing old man somehow brought the combination of joy and happiness. It somehow felt special that I simply could not resist.
Form the look of the old man, he did not appear to have much, perhaps being paid a small sum to carry the sandwich board which displayed "Happy Erection". The way that he was smiling and happily dancing away reminded me that happiness is spontaneous and does not depend on the material possessions and great wealth. I could feel the happiness of this old man dancing to the music and his characteristics added to it.
Perhaps one day I may just be a sandwich board man dancing to the music.
